Though it is a small temple, when you stand in the garden and view the moss, it soothes your feeling.
Dating back to Court Noble time in 12th century, there was a beautiful dancer/singer, called Shirabyo-shi. equivalent to a current pop singer and dancer. Her name is Gio.
One day, she visited the most powerful man, the top of Sumurai. Taira Kiyomori.
She wanted him to see her dance . Her wish was realized and he saw her dance. and really liked/loved her
Then, she started to live with him in his palace.
Later day, another dancer came to him. she had the same wish as Gio.
As you know, same thing happens in the history. even in the personal history.
Taira Kiyomori loved the new dancer, which means Gio had to leave his palace.
She moved to Sagano, away from the city.
Quietly she started her new life there.
One day, she heard someone visit her.
When she opened the door, there was a dancer who made Gio move there.
The dancer also couldn't help leaving the palace of Taira for the same reason.
How generously, Gio accepted the dancer to live together.
After the death of Taira, She kept praying to mourn him there.
This temple has such a sad story.
Even in the high season in Kyoto, it gives you a quiet and beautiful scene.
